Daadi Ki Shaadi Actress Neetu Kapoor Says Therapy Is Nothing But Nonsense – ‘They Tell You To Meditate, Count Numbers…’

Neetu Kapoor questions therapy culture and reveals why she chose friends and inner strength over counselling after Rishi Kapoor’s death.

Veteran actor and Ranbir Kapoor‘s mother Neetu Kapoor has sparked fresh conversation around mental health and healing after sharing her views on therapy. During a recent podcast appearance, the actress revealed that she personally does not believe in therapy and instead finds comfort in close friendships, family support and work.

Neetu Kapoor opened up about dealing with the emotional pain after losing her husband Rishi Kapoor in 2020. The actress admitted that although many people advised her to seek professional help, she struggled to connect with the process and eventually realised that inner strength mattered more for her healing journey.

Neetu Kapoor Says Friends Matter More Than Therapists

Speaking on All About Her podcast hosted by Soha Ali Khan, Neetu Kapoor explained why she values friendships over therapy sessions. She said, “I don’t believe in therapists, honestly. I believe in friends. You should have four or five close friends with whom you can really talk things out.”

The actress shared that emotional support from trusted people helped her more than professional counselling during difficult times. Recalling the emotional phase after Rishi Kapoor’s death, Neetu Kapoor said she did try therapy once but could not relate to it.

She revealed, “When Rishi passed away, people told me to go to a therapist. I was very low and I did speak to one, but I kept asking myself, ‘What am I doing here?’ Till I am not mentally strong myself, what can therapy do? They tell you to meditate, count numbers, do this and that… for me, it felt like nonsense.”

She further added that healing takes time and must come from within. According to Neetu, people eventually have to decide for themselves when they want to become emotionally stronger and move ahead in life. For the actress, work, family and friendships became the biggest pillars of support.
