In the 2026 DUSU election, the ABVP candidates managed to win three out of four central panel seats, which can be taken as an excellent showing by the ABVP in the DU student poll. They bagged the positions of president, secretary, and joint secretary, with an independent candidate, Deepanshu Shokeen, winning that of vice-president. But in his reaction to the result, Saurav Das, a spokesperson of the CJP, gave a different perspective on it. Instead of taking the result as a simple validation of the ABVP, he pointed out that there is a split amongst the factions that oppose it.

According to Saurav Das, the 2026 DUSU result shouldn’t automatically be seen as a clear sign of approval for the BJP-affiliated student organization. As per Das, those who were against the ruling regime were divided among themselves.

The ABVP nominees, Yash Dabas, Riya Chhawdi, and Lakshya Raj Singh, won the president, secretary, and joint secretary seats. The independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen won the vice-president seat, and NSUI didn’t manage to win any of the four central seats.
The bigger political question
Alongside raising questions about the results, he raised doubts about unity in the ranks of the opposition student bodies. The focus of his statement is moved from the clean sweep itself to other political issues.
