Bhagwant Mann: Punjab Police kept up its statewide crackdown on drugs, arresting 139 alleged smugglers on the 609th day of the Yudh Nashian Virudh campaign, which runs under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s government.
Day 609 Seizures
According to police, the teams recovered 10 kg of heroin, 1 kg of opium, 680 intoxicant pills and ₹13,400 in drug money from those arrested.
Running Total Crosses 89,000
With the latest arrests, the number of drug smugglers arrested since the campaign began has reached 89,774 in 609 days. The tally stood at 85,467 on day 593, so about 4,300 more arrests were logged in 16 days.
Daily Numbers Vary
Daily arrests have changed from day to day. Police reported 106 arrests in one recent report and 189 in a single-day statewide operation on day 596, when 539 raids covered all 28 police districts.
Raids Across All 28 Districts
The operations are carried out simultaneously across the state’s police districts, under the direction of the Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav. The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Punjab is also associated with the campaign, along with awareness programmes and youth outreach.
Anti-Gangster Drive Runs Alongside
On the same day, police reported Day 284 of Gangstran Te Vaar, the separate campaign against gangsters launched on January 20, 2026. Teams conducted 475 raids and held 152 people, including three proclaimed offenders, and the public can share information anonymously through a dedicated line.
What The Numbers Show
Bhagwant Mann: The arrest figures show the scale of the enforcement effort. Arrests alone do not show whether drug supply or addiction is falling, so conviction rates and de-addiction outcomes will be the real measures of the campaign’s impact.
