Partial solar eclipse: Check duration, timings in Indian cities here

Partial solar eclipse: The last solar eclipse of 2022 will pass over India on December 25. A partial solar eclipse will take place. A partial solar eclipse, as defined by NASA, takes place when the Moon passes through the path of the Sun while the Sun, Moon, and Earth are not exactly lined up. Only a portion of the Sun’s surface appears to have a black shadow.

Depending on how much of the Sun is obscured by the Moon, this gives the Sun a crescent-shaped appearance or provides the impression that a “bite” has been taken out of the Sun.

Europe, the Urals, Western Siberia, Central Asia, and Western Asia, as well as the northeastern part of Africa, can all witness the partially eclipsed sun rays.

India will also be able to see the final solar eclipse of 2022. However, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and other regions of northeastern India won’t be able to observe the celestial spectacle (names of a few of such places are Aizawl, Dibrugarh, Imphal, Itanagar, Kohima, Sibsagar, Silchar, Tamelong, etc.).

“The shadowing of the sun by the moon will be approximately between 40 and 50 percent at the time of the maximum eclipse in north-western parts of the country,” the Ministry of Earth Sciences said in a statement.

The percentage of the Sun that will be covered by the Moon in Delhi and Mumbai at the time of the greatest eclipse will be roughly 44% and 24%, respectively.
The eclipse will last in Delhi for 1 hour 13 minutes and in Mumbai for 1 hour 19 minutes, from sunrise to dusk.

The partial solar eclipse will last for 31 minutes in Chennai and 12 minutes in Kolkata.

Indians won’t be able to see the eclipse toward the end because it will be happening after sunset.

The solar eclipse will start in India at around 16:49 and terminate at 17:42. On October 25, it will be visible from most locations.
