Honda Africa Twin supercharged: Since stricter pollution regulations are closing in on internal combustion engines every day, manufacturers are being pushed to look into other possibilities, one of which being forced induction. The only well-known company using this technology on a road bike is Kawasaki, who makes the H2 line of bikes. However, Honda appears to be ready to follow suit after applying for a new patent for a supercharged Africa Twin engine.

This latest application reveals that Honda has applied for a patent for a twin-screw supercharger that is identical to the Kawasaki H2’s. However, Honda will probably employ the supercharger to help support the mid-range of the Africa Twin, unlike Kawasaki, who used it to make its H2 bikes astonishingly speedy.

The greater output provided by the supercharger will be helpful in meeting the increasingly stringent pollution standards, which is another factor. The Africa Twin’s engine has prioritised useful low- and mid-range grunt over exploding peak power stats. The manner the end-user will most likely utilise the bike also reflects the character of the engine. Currently, these are only patents, and the business hasn’t indicated when they would be put into production.
