IIT Madras has made a flying electric taxi that could probably go faster than a helicopter, all we know

IIT Madras: The e200 electric flying taxi, which was designed by the IIT Madras startup company ePlane, was unveiled as a prototype at the Bengaluru Aero India event.

The electric flying taxi, according to the IIT Madras startup company ePlane, will have a speed that is not just ten times greater than that of on-road vehicles but also that of helicopters. The electric flying taxi can go 200 kilometres once it is fully charged.

The ePlane company created an electric taxi so that it can land and take off with the least amount of room necessary. This flying taxi can be parked in 25 square metres of space. This 200 kg eVOTE electric flying taxi has 4 duct fans mounted in the propeller.

Carrying capacity and range

In addition to the pilot, there is room for two additional passengers, with the ability to convert to four seats in the future. According to the ePlane firm, the eVOTE electric flying taxi can travel between 150 and 200 kilometres per hour while carrying two people.

According to the business, this flying eTaxi can fly up to 1500 feet (457 metres) in the air. This flying taxi has a non-swappable battery that the firm has installed.

Additionally, it claims that a trip will cost nearly twice as much per person as Uber generally does for the same distance. Professor Satya Chakraborty, the startup’s CTO, and Pranjal Mehta, the CEO of the E-plane company, claimed that they were inspired to create an electric flying taxi after viewing a film on electric ground transportation.

Future plans for the flying taxi

The flying taxi is ideal for roof-top to roof-top urban air mobility in any city, claims the startup. The e-plane business has raised around $1 million to prepare the model. To operate this flying taxi, a pilot is required. But, the business hopes to eventually offer driverless technologies. At the Aero India event, the flying taxi was not, however, demonstrated in flight. With a single battery charge, the e200 should be able to make up to 10 short trips of 10 to 15 kilometres.
