Maruti Suzuki Electric Cars launch roadmap, from Jimny EV to WagonR EV, all we know

Maruti Suzuki Electric Cars: Maruti Suzuki will introduce its first EV for the Indian market in FY2024, as announced at the 2023 Auto Expo. After that, Maruti will keep growing its selection of environmentally friendly vehicles, which will eventually include hybrids, completely electric vehicles, and models that run on CNG, biogas, or a blend of ethanol and petrol.

Suzuki, Maruti’s parent company, has aimed to lessen its carbon impact, and one of those initiatives includes switching to greener automobiles. Suzuki is also putting its carbon neutrality plan into practice in areas like Europe and Japan, in addition to India.

Maruti Suzuki Electric Cars plan

Maruti will launch six new BEV cars in India by FY2030. By FY2030, these will account for about 15% of total production. Among the most likely candidates are the Jimny EV, Fronx EV, and WagonR EV. By FY2030, HEV production will account for about 25% of total production. In the upcoming years, new HEV models are most likely to be released. Only the Grand Vitara compact SUV now offers a good hybrid option from Maruti.

The contribution of ICE-based vehicles will be about 60% by FY2030. Even this lot will be cleaner than its predecessors because it includes models that use green fuels like CNG, biogas, and ethanol-blended fuel. In contrast to other markets, India will have different carbon neutrality objectives for Suzuki. That’s because India’s target date for being carbon neutral is 2070. Europe, in contrast, has set a goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

Suzuki plans to reach a 20% BEV ratio in Japan by FY 2030. By FY2030, 6 BEVs would be introduced, similar to India. Suzuki’s lineup in Japan will exclusively include BEVs and HEVs, unlike India, which will continue to offer ICE-based cars. By FY2030, it is intended that the latter will account for 80% of production. Later this year, the first Suzuki BEV will make its debut in Japan.

In contrast to the Japanese market, Suzuki’s desired powertrain ratio is entirely different in Europe. By FY2030, Suzuki wants to see a combination of 80% BEVs and 20% HEVs throughout Europe. By 2030, the continent will receive 5 brand-new Suzuki BEVs.

Competitors

While the powerful hybrid Grand Vitara has been an unqualified success, it is still unclear whether Maruti BEVs will have comparable success. Given that India is one of Suzuki’s biggest markets, it is obvious that the company’s next electric vehicles will be fully loaded and provide a wide variety of features. Maruti Suzuki currently holds a market share of about 43.4%.

Tata Motors and Mahindra, two companies that have made public announcements about ambitious plans to provide a range of born-electric vehicles, will be stiff competitors for Maruti’s impending BEVs. Having vehicles like the Nexon EV and XUV400 already gives Tata and Mahindra an advantage. Maruti is likely to continue putting an emphasis on cost while yet giving its customers the best value.
