Mahindra Scorpio for the Indian Army

The Indian Army is always provided with the highest calibre of vehicles. Mahindra’s Scorpio will participate in this scenario with the Indian Army. Yes, the Indian Army has given Mahindra a purchase order for 1470 Mahindra Scorpio Classic vehicles. However, it won’t be the standard Scorpio that is for sale to the general public; instead, it will receive many modifications, according to the army.

4WD editions to be supplied

The Mahindra Scorpio Classic offers a 2WD, or two-wheel drive, option. However, the Scorpio Classic that will be purchased by the Army will have a 4WD option, meaning that the vehicle will employ the power of all four wheels to meet Army requirements. Because of this, this car will be 10 horsepower more powerful than usual. Mahindra Scorpio Classic Army Special produces 140 horsepower in comparison to Mahindra Scorpio Classic’s 130 bhp.

Additionally, a black plastic panel will be put in front of each windscreen to provide safety for the car. All other wheels will be made of standard steel. The appearance will likewise be traditional. Yes, even if there isn’t much information available yet, army print may be employed in the body paint.

Will it be bulletproof?

Like the Mahindra Rakshak, the Mahindra Scorpio Classic Army Edition will be bulletproof. For the Army’s use during wartime, Mahindra previously produced the totally bulletproof Rakshak SUV. Similar to the protector, it is anticipated that the Mahindra Scorpio Classic will be able to stop 7.62mm bullets from entering the glass or body.

Other vehicles employed by the Army

Both the Tata Nexon pickup and the popular Tata Safari Storme have joined the Indian Army. However, the army’s preferred SUV for almost two decades has been the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy. The Tata Safari Storme 3-Door Army was previously presented to the army as a possible replacement for the Gypsy with a soft top, but it was not chosen.

A report from March 2022 states that the Indian Army planned to replace its 35,000 outdated Maruti Suzuki Gypsies. Mahindra Scorpio can take its position, however, unlike the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy, which has a soft top, Scorpio has a steel top, which may not be as well-liked in the military.
The Indian Army now wants to add some electric vehicles, according to press reports. Recently, the Air Force received 12 Tata Nexon EVs as well. According to these numbers, electric cars struggle to match the strength and durability needed by the military.
