Honda Activa EV Scooty: Electric Scooter gets a confirm launch date? Fate of ICE version and other details here

Honda Activa EV Scooty: The Honda Activa will now be available in all-electric form. Next year, Honda will officially unveil the first generation of Honda Activa Electric editions. The electric scooter will be made in India and will have the “Make in India” label. The version should have the same features and look as the present version, which runs on an ICE (Internal Combustion Engine). Let’s take a look at all of the information available on the all-electric Hona Activa.

Honda Activa Electric Edition To Launch In 2024

The first Honda Activa electric version, as well as the first Honda electric scooter, will be on sale in March 2024. At the debut of the petrol-powered Activa H-Smart ICE scooter, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) MD and CEO Atsushi Ogata confirmed the coming of the electric model.

The Honda Activa electric scooter will be designed and built in India. It will be based on the present scooter model, which includes an internal combustion engine (ICE).

Coming with non-removable battery

Although the electric version will be based on the petrol version, it will include a new non-removable electric powertrain. Simply said, the battery in the Honda Activa Electric edition will be non-removable. Instead of being installed on the hub, it should acquire a capable BLDC motor that can be operated by a belt drive.

Honda Activa EV Scooty: Top speed and power

In terms of drivetrain and powertrain, the electric version of the Honda Activa is expected to have a top speed of 50 km/h. This speed is difficult to obtain with standard hub-mounted BLDC motors. As a result, Honda will almost certainly use a detachable motor that draws power from a non-removable battery and transmits rotational torque to the rear wheel via a belt.

Will Honda Activa Petrol ICE Version Be Retired?

Honda has stated that the second version of the Honda Activa electric scooter is in the works. Although specifics are scant, this model will have a swappable battery. Before delivering the second electric scooter, the business intends to instal approximately 6,000 battery-swapping stations at key client touchpoints.

In fact, the initial edition of the all-electric Honda Activa may resemble the current generation of the scooter, owing to Honda’s utilisation of a huge number of parts from the current ICE version, such as the braking system.

Rivals

Honda has not released any details on the Honda Activa electric edition. As a result, details such as real battery capacity, power consumption, and even price are currently unknown. To compete in the market, Honda could aim to retain the specifications near to the Ather 450 Plus and the Ola S1 Pro.

Although Honda will offer an all-electric version of the Activa scooter, the CEO stated that the business will not ditch the ICE version of the popular two-wheeler. “ICE-powered models require less gasoline and may drive greater distances,” he said. This implies that there may be two versions of the Honda Activa in India, one that runs on electricity and the other on gasoline.
