Mahindra has rolled out an updated version of the Thar OG. The 2.2 litre diesel engine now produces 152hp and 330Nm of torque, an increase of 18hp and 30Nm over the outgoing unit, while the 2.0 litre turbo petrol engine has been tuned up to 162hp and 330Nm.

The entry-level 1.5 litre diesel continues to offer 119hp and remains available only with a Rear Wheel Drive layout paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Gearbox and Drivetrain Options
Buyers opting for the larger 2.2 litre diesel or the 2.0 litre turbo petrol engines can choose between a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
For the first time, both of these engines are also available with either Rear Wheel Drive or Four Wheel Drive, giving buyers more flexibility depending on whether they prioritise everyday driving or serious off-road capability.
Off-Roading Hardware and Trim Structure
The updated Thar OG is offered across three trims, AXT, LXT and ZXT, with the new range-topping ZXT variant introduced alongside this update.
Off-road focused hardware includes an electronic locking differential, a brake locking differential, automatic hub locks and dedicated Mud, Sand and Snow terrain modes, though these terrain modes remain limited to 4WD versions of the LXT and ZXT trims.
Styling, Features and Pricing
Visually, the Thar OG borrows several design cues from its five-door sibling, the Thar Roxx, including a new front grille, projector LED headlamps with C-shaped daytime running lamps and reworked 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.
Inside, the cabin gains a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital instrument cluster, rear AC vents and a wireless charging pad on the top trim.
