Powertrain options
In India, customers can choose between a petrol (sDrive 18i) or a diesel (sDrive 18d) engine for the new BMW X1. The 1.5-liter, three-cylinder gasoline engine has 136 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque, while the 2.0-liter, four-cylinder diesel engine has 150 horsepower and 360 Nm of torque. The front wheels will receive power from both engines through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
BMW claims that the diesel variant can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds and the gasoline version in 9.2 seconds. The fuel efficiency of the gasoline is 15.03 kpl, while the diesel is 19.23 kpl.
Trims and features
BMW will offer the X1 in two trim levels, the X Line and M Sport, with both available powertrains.
The third-generation X1 is equipped with a 10.70-inch touchscreen screen, 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 12-speaker Harmon Kardon audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, linked car technology, ADAS capabilities, and parking assist. The front seats of the M Sport variants also have a massaging feature, while Sports seats are standard equipment in the X Line models.
Both trims will come with 18-inch alloy wheels, but the M Sport versions will have more aggressive styling.
Exterior and interior
The new BMW X1 features thin headlights with inverted L-shaped DRLs on either side of a big, chrome-heavy kidney grille. The flat door handles and large wheel arches in profile are reminiscent of those on the new BMW 7 Series. The new X1 is longer than competitors like the Audi Q3 and slightly bigger than the previous generation in terms of size. It is substantially more upscale inside than it was before. The cabin has a huge 500-liter boot and greater room for passengers in the back seats.
Competitors
When it is released, the new X1 will compete with other small, upscale SUVs like the Mercedes-Benz GLA, the updated Volvo XC40, and the new Audi Q3. Expect the new X1 to cost between Rs 45 lakh and Rs 50 lakh, which is slightly more expensive than the previous model.
