Old Vehicle Scrap Policy: In Delhi, petrol and diesel automobiles that are more than 15 years old are prohibited. The Delhi government is working hard to get rid of discarded cars. The government will seize your vehicle if it is unfit or old. We won’t even leave the car sitting at home unattended. A fresh circular has been released by the Delhi Transport Department. Old cars that are parked at home or on the road will be seized under this including Unfit and unregistered automobiles.
What is the need of this policy?
In response to the National Capital Region’s (NCR) rising pollution levels, the National Green Tribunal and the Supreme Court imposed regulations in 2021. These regulations gave the Delhi Transport Department the authority to collect and destroy diesel and petrol vehicles older than 10 years. As a result, many people were forced to trash or sell their old cars in neighbouring states.
Delhi Transport Department seized unused vehicles
Many of these cases have recently come to light as a result of the Delhi Transport Department seizing abandoned vehicles that were parked in parking lots. The Honda CR-V owned by famous political analyst and expert Tehseen Poonawalla was impounded in a high-profile case.
Rules has been changed
A campaign against outdated automobiles was jointly organised by the Delhi Traffic Police, Delhi Municipal Corporation, and Delhi Transport Department. However, a new circular has now been released, and under it, old vehicles will once more be the subject of action. You may sell your old automobile elsewhere or have it scrapped if you still have one.
