In a major boost to public healthcare, the Aam Aadmi Party–led Punjab government is set to roll out the Chief Minister Sehat Bima Yojana from January 2026, offering comprehensive health security to nearly 65 lakh families across the state.

Under the flagship scheme, each eligible family will be entitled to cashless medical treatment up to ₹10 lakh, ensuring that no household is pushed into financial distress due to medical emergencies. The scheme will be implemented simultaneously in all 23 districts of Punjab, covering both government and empanelled private hospitals.

According to AAP Punjab, the ambitious health insurance programme is being positioned as the largest health security initiative in the state’s history. A key feature of the Chief Minister Sehat Bima Yojana is that no premium will be charged from beneficiaries, eliminating any financial burden on families. Importantly, every family member will be covered under a single policy, offering wide-ranging protection against major health expenses.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann described the scheme as a “New Year gift” for the people of Punjab, aimed at strengthening the state’s healthcare system and ensuring dignified treatment for all citizens, irrespective of income. The government has emphasised that the initiative reflects its commitment to accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare.
Health officials said that hospitals across the state are being prepared for smooth implementation, with systems in place to facilitate cashless treatment and quick claim settlements. The inclusion of private hospitals is expected to significantly expand treatment options, especially in critical and specialised care.
Political observers see the move as a major step in Punjab’s ongoing “health revolution,” reinforcing AAP’s focus on welfare-driven governance. With rising healthcare costs posing challenges nationwide, the Chief Minister Sehat Bima Yojana is expected to provide much-needed relief and financial security to millions of families in Punjab.
