Zomato, the well-known food-tech company, has officially rebranded itself as Eternal, following approval from its board. This major move marks a significant shift in the company’s future direction, as it aims to expand beyond just food delivery services.

From Zomato to Eternal

In a filing to the stock exchanges, Zomato revealed that the name change comes after the company acquired Blinkit. The name "Eternal" has already been in use internally since the Blinkit acquisition to differentiate the company's operations from its primary app. Deepinder Goyal, Co-founder and CEO of Zomato, explained that the transition to Eternal was necessary as the company was now managing multiple businesses beyond the Zomato brand.

The Role of Eternal in the Company’s Future

Deepinder Goyal shared his thoughts on the rebranding, stating that the company had always planned to rename itself once its expansion beyond food delivery became more significant. With Blinkit now part of the family, he believes the time has come for this change. Eternal Ltd will now serve as the umbrella brand for Zomato, Blinkit, District, and Hyperpure, marking the company’s wider focus on diverse sectors such as quick commerce, dining services, and supply chain solutions.

Stock Ticker Changes and Financial Performance

While the company’s stock ticker will change from Zomato to Eternal, the Zomato app will continue to operate under its original name. Despite the rebranding, Zomato’s recent financial results showed a 57% decline in net profit, which fell to Rs 59 crore for Q3. However, revenue grew by 64% to Rs 5,404 crore.

Expansion Plans and Future Goals

In addition to the rebrand, Zomato announced plans to open 1,000 new Blinkit stores by the end of 2025, signalling a major expansion in the quick commerce space.

This transformation of Zomato into Eternal Ltd. signifies a bold new chapter for the company as it continues to grow its portfolio across multiple industries.
