The Indian automobile industry experienced a notable surge in sales in March 2025, particularly in the SUV segment. This growth was fueled by a combination of strong private consumption and the country's resilient economy, which continues to show promising signs of recovery. Several automakers, including Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra and Kia India, reported impressive sales figures, especially in the SUV category.

Maruti Suzuki’s SUV Sales Soar in March 2025

Maruti Suzuki, India's largest car manufacturer, saw significant growth in its SUV sales in March 2025. The company sold 61,097 SUVs during the month, marking a nearly 4.5% increase compared to 58,436 units sold in March 2024. This uptick contributed to Maruti Suzuki's overall sales growth, with the company reporting a 3.1% year-on-year increase in total sales, reaching 192,984 units.

The year 2025 was also a milestone for Maruti Suzuki, as it recorded its highest-ever annual sales, selling 22,34,266 units. This includes both domestic sales of 17,95,259 units and exports of 3,32,585 units, demonstrating the brand's strong presence in the market.

Mahindra & Mahindra Breaks Records with Over 5 Lakh SUVs Sold in 2025

Overall, Mahindra's total vehicle sales for the month reached 83,894 units, reflecting a 23% growth compared to the previous year.

The company also achieved a significant milestone by selling over 5 lakh SUVs in the domestic market for the first time. This success was boosted by the strong demand for Mahindra's Electric Origin SUVs, which have garnered attention in the electric vehicle space. Veejay Nakra, President of the Automotive Division at Mahindra & Mahindra, expressed his optimism, stating, “The year ended on a very positive note with us selling over 5 lakh SUVs in the domestic market for the first time ever.”

Kia India’s March Success

The Seltos, Carens, and Syros also contributed to the brand’s strong performance.

Hardeep Singh Brar, Senior VP and Head of Sales and Marketing at Kia, highlighted the company’s continued focus on innovation and customer satisfaction. He expressed confidence in the brand’s future, particularly given the positive reception of the Kia Syros.
