Uber has launched a new service in India called ‘Uber for Teens’, designed specifically for teenagers aged 13 to 17. This initiative aims to offer a safe and reliable transportation option while ensuring that parents can monitor their children's rides. The service has been rolled out across 37 cities, including Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Kolkata. With growing concerns over teen mobility, this move is expected to provide a structured and safer commuting option for young riders.

Uber has prioritised safety in this service by introducing multiple security measures to protect teen passengers. These include GPS tracking, which allows both Uber and parents to monitor the ride in real time. The company has also incorporated an in-app emergency button that teens can use if they feel unsafe during the ride. Additionally, parents can track rides from start to finish and receive detailed ride summaries after each trip.

How Parents Can Monitor Teen Rides

Uber has introduced a Teens account feature within the parent’s existing app, allowing them to have complete oversight of their child’s travel. Parents can request rides on behalf of their teens, monitor the ride in real time, and access detailed ride summaries once the trip is completed. This setup not only ensures transparency but also provides an extra layer of security for both parents and teenagers.

Uber’s Vision for Teen Mobility in India

Prabhjeet Singh, President of Uber India and South Asia, highlighted the significance of this new initiative. He stated that Uber understands the transportation challenges that teenagers and their families face in India. With the launch of Uber for Teens, the company aims to provide a trustworthy service that parents can rely on while ensuring that teenagers have a safe and easy-to-use mode of travel. He also emphasised that Uber wants this service to be not only secure but also appealing and convenient for teenagers.

Survey Reveals Parental Concerns Over Teen Travel

A recent Uber survey revealed that 92% of parents in India struggle to find reliable transportation for their teenagers. The biggest concern for 72% of parents is safety, making it a key factor in their decision when choosing a travel option for their children. The survey also highlighted how parents currently manage their teens' travel needs. It found that 63% of parents use their own vehicles to transport their teens for sports and extracurricular activities, while 61% do the same for after-school coaching classes.
