Covid-19 update: India reports 97,750 cases, 1201 deaths in last 24-hour

India once again recorded over 90,000 covid cases in last 24 hours, taking country’s total toll past 46 lakh. With fresh 97,750 cases, India’s covid tally now stands at 46,59,985. The death toll has crossed 77,000 mark with fresh 1,201 fatalities reported in the last 24 hours.

5,51,89,226 total number of samples tested in India for Covid-19 upto September 11 and 10,91,251 samples tested in the last 24 hours, said Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Mumbai, which is India’s worst hit city, has topped 10 lakh infections as it continues to report 20,000 infections daily.

The Ministry of Home and Family Welfare informed that more than 3/4th of the country’s covid cases have recovered, discharged. It said that active cases are only a small proportion of total cases while adding that early detection and aggressive testing have helped the country in reducing mortality rate.

India’s indigenous vaccine candidate, Covaxin, developed Bharat Biotech on Friday showed positive results on its animal trials. According to a statement, Bharat Biotech developed and assessed the protective efficacy and immunogenicity of an inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine (BBV152) or Covaxin in rhesus macaques (Macaca mulata).

Meanwhile, The overall number of global coronavirus cases has crossed 28.3 million, while the deaths have increased to over 9,13,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University. According to fresh data, the total number of cases stood at 28,331,121 and casualties reported have topped 9,00,000. The US remains world’s worst affected country with 64,43,048 cases and 1,92,968 deaths. India is currently in the second place in terms of cases at 45,62,414, while the country’s death toll stood at 76,271.
