After the ruckus over the new excise policy in Delhi, liquor shops have opened from today under the old excise policy. By the first week of September, it is believed that more than 300 shops will open.
Withdrawing the controversial Excise Policy 2021-22 earlier this month amid allegations of corruption, the Delhi government had announced that the old excise system would be restored from September 1. Under this, liquor will be sold through four corporations – Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation, Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation, Delhi State Civil Supplies Corporation and Delhi Consumer Cooperative Wholesale Stores.
Employees will wear uniform at the shop
Liquor and beer contracts opened in Delhi under the old excise policy. Licenses granted to DTTDC, DSIIDC, DCCW and DSCSC for selling liquor. The employees will wear the uniform at the shop, on which the nameplate will be. Under the new liquor policy, the validity of opening of private contracts was till August 31.
500 shops will open by the end of the year
Officials said that these shops will open across the city except in non-conforming areas. An official said that six shops would start functioning in the capital’s shopping malls from Thursday. While many shops will open near busy metro stations. However, Delhi Airport may have to wait for a few weeks for the opening of liquor shops in its arrival and departure terminals.
A mobile app of the Excise Department will also start from September. Through the mobile app, liquor enthusiasts will be informed about the places of contracts around them and their opening and closing times. An official said they are in talks with property owners who had earlier given their commercial spaces to open private liquor shops. We are hopeful that they will apply for more licenses and the size of the shops will also be bigger.
The Excise Department has also created an app to give information about liquor shops. This app has been created under the name mAbkaridelhi. The location of liquor shops can be found through this app. With this you can also know the opening hours of the shop.
