Covid – 19: RT PCR test: mandatory for flyers from Singapore, China and Thailand

Covid – 19: The RT-PCR test will be required starting on January 1, 2023 for flyers coming from China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Thailand in an effort to slow the rise in Covid cases, the Center announced on Thursday. Prior to departure, the travellers must upload their reports to the Air Suvidha website.

RT-PCR will be mandatory from flyers coming from China, Hong Kong, Japan , South Korea, Singapore and Thailand from Jan 1, 2023

Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the tests must be done within 72 hours of arriving in India. The minister stated that this requirement is in addition to the random 2% tests that are administered to all foreign passengers on all arriving international planes upon their arrival in India, regardless of their point of departure.

Spike in Coronavirus cases in India

Union Health Ministry data has revealed that India has recorded 268 new coronavirus infections and the active cases have increased to 3552. According to the ministry, the weekly positivity rate was 0.17 percent and the daily positivity rate was 0.11 percent.
The government has issued an alert, tightened Covid standards, and encouraged states and Union territories to be ready for anything due to an increase in coronavirus cases in some nations.

Ministry and health officials have cautioned that coming 40 days will be crucial as country might see a Covid surge in January. Meanwhile , a nationwide mock drills were conducted at hospitals and healthcare facilities on Tuesday (December 27), with Mandavia visiting Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital.

The most recent sub-variant of Omicron, BF.7, which is thought to be less severe even if it has the potential to cause a wave, is what is causing the present spike in COVID-19 cases. It is highly transmissible. The Union Health Ministry does anticipate a limited number of hospitalisations and fatalities from this variation.
