India on Friday, 27 August, crossed the milestone of administering more than 1 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines in a single day. This is the highest ever vaccination achieved in a single day since the start of India’s vaccination drive.

“Record vaccination numbers today! Crossing 1 crore is a momentous feat. Kudos to those getting vaccinated and those making the vaccination drive a success,” PM Narendra Modi tweeted after the record high was crossed.

Home Minister Amit Shah said, “1 crore vaccine in 1 day! This figure is a reflection of the strong will and immense potential of New India.”

He added, “The Narendra Modi-led India has shown the world how a country can set an example with visionary and hardworking leadership while fighting a successful battle with Corona.”

Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Mansukh Mandaviya also congratulated citizens for the historic achievement. Taking to his Twitter handle, the health minister wrote, “This is the effort by which the country has crossed the figure of more than 1 crore vaccines in 1 day. The tireless work of health workers and PM Narendra Modi Ji’s determination to #SabkoVaccineMuftVaccine is paying off.”

BJP president JP Nadda too lauded the feat.

A total of 23,72,15,353 people in the age group of 18-44 years have received the first dose and 2,45,60,807 have been administered the second dose of the vaccine since the start of the third phase of the vaccination drive, according to the health ministry.

While 100 per cent of the front-line workers have been inoculated against the deadly contagious virus, there has been a 99 per cent coverage among healthcare workers.

Over the past weeks, the pace of the COVID-19 vaccination drive has gained significant momentum.

As per the Union health minister, India took 85 days to administer 10 crore doses. The country then took 45 days to cross the 20-crore mark and 29 more days to reach 30 crore. The 40 cr. mark was reached in another 24 days and the country crossed the 50 crore milestone in another 20 days. And thereafter, it took only 19 more days to go past the 60-crore mark.
