Indian couple from Vietnam with 45 pistols arrested at Delhi airport

An Indian couple from Vietnam was detained by the customs officers at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport after 45 firearms were recovered from two bags they were carrying. The arrested duo are Jagjit Singh and Jaswinder Kaur, Gurgaon residents. Their 17-month-old daughter was also with them.

To ascertain whether the weapons are real or not, an inquiry is being conducted. The firearms are fully operational and ready for use, according to the counterterrorism unit of the National Security Guard (NSG), which is looking into the issue.

The National Security Guard, the nation’s elite counter-terrorism organisation, has confirmed in a preliminary report that the firearms are fully functional and can be used, officials were informed. “Ballistics reports will confirm whether the guns are real or not,” were said by sources.

On July 10, the couple left Vietnam and arrived back in India.

The pistols, which his brother Manjit Singh had provided to Jagjit Singh in two trolley bags, were discovered in his possession.

Both of the accused have admitted to earlier bringing 25 handguns from Turkey to India.

A senior customs official informed news outlet ANI that the suspects “confessed (they) had previously smuggled 25 pieces of weapons with a value of above Rs 12 lakh.”

According to a source, the child has been given to their grandma while the Indian couple has been placed under custody in accordance with Section 104 of the Customs Act.
