Mumbai Weather: IMD issues heat warning

Mumbai Weather: Mumbai’s Santacruz Meteorological Department has issued a heat wave warning for six districts of Maharashtra including Mumbai till March 16. The IMD said that severe heatwave conditions are expected to persist for two days from March 14 to March 16 in some parts of Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad and Sindhudurg.

The IMD further predicted heat wave conditions over Saurashtra and some areas of Kutch in Gujarat and Konkan in Maharashtra and heatwave conditions over southwest areas of Coastal Karnataka, Gujarat and Rajasthan. Yellow alert has been issued for heat wave in Gujarat region for next 2 days. The temperature may rise around 1-2 degree Celsius and there is a possibility of extreme heat in Saurashtra and Gujarat regions. The temperature in Ahmedabad is expected to be around 40-41 degrees.

The heat wave warning came after several areas of Mumbai recorded a rise in temperature on Sunday. According to a report, the IMD Santa Cruz weather station had recorded a day temperature of 38.6 degrees Celsius, which was 5.7 degrees Celsius above normal.

Six notches above normal, Colaba recorded a day temperature of 37.6 degrees Celsius, while the night temperature was 9 notches above normal at 23.5 degrees Celsius, said the TOI report above. An IMD official said that since these winds are dry, it reduces the moisture level.

With anticyclonic circulation with clear skies, this condition will not allow the temperature to drop down and will either remain the same or increase.

The Meteorological Department has warned of increasing heat in March itself. In such a situation, there is a possibility that rain will also come in the area soon. At the same time, warnings and alerts have already been issued to the people to avoid the heat.
