Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay taken into preventive custody

Voting has started for the by-elections in seven assembly seats in 6 states including Telangana. But a few hours before the voting, political tension was increasing in Telangana. Police took BJP state president Bandi Sanjay into preventive custody. It was told that on the intervening night of November 2 and 3, he was moving towards Munugodu with his convoy.

There is a by-election in this assembly constituency. But before reaching there, at around two o’clock in the night, the police stopped Bandi Sanjay’s convoy and took him in preventive custody and sent him to Abdullahpurmet police station.

Giving information on the matter, the police told –

By-elections are going to be held in Munugodu. In such a situation, no person from outside is allowed to go there. We got information that Bandi Sanjay is going to Munugodu with a convoy. So he was put under preventive arrest. He was taken into preventive custody at 2 pm. They will be released after seeing the situation ahead.

BJP and its state president have opposed this action of the police. Bandi Sanjay has described his arrest as a ‘joke of democracy’. He tweeted and wrote-

We were forcibly arrested in Abdullahpurmet. This is a mockery of democracy and I strongly condemn it. We went out to protest as per the election rules.

On the other hand, TRS alleges that BJP workers have attacked their workers. A complaint has also been made to the election officials and the police regarding this. On the other hand, the CPI alleged that the BJP’s intention is to cancel this by-election, so its leaders and workers are staging a sit-in since late night.

There is a tough fight between TRS, Congress and BJP in the by-election for Munugode assembly seat. Congress MLA K Rajagopal Reddy won this seat in 2018. By resigning from Congress, he is now fighting on behalf of BJP from this seat.
