Prime Minister Narendra Modi calls his minister in night to get updates. External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar confirmed this by narrating an anecdote. The incident is of the rescue mission of Indians from Afghanistan. During an event in New York, USA, Jaishankar said, ‘It was midnight…Mera phone baja… when PM calls you no caller id comes… I was a little surprised… but even on no caller id someone is trying to talk to you… this time it was PM…. he was assuming that I would recognize him… so his first question was, Jaage Ho? Where am I sir? It is 12.30 and what will I be doing? He said, ok.. you are watching TV… what is happening there?’
Jaishankar said that after this he gave a little update. Then the PM said that ‘call me when it is over.’ Jaishankar said, ‘I said sir it will take two-three hours more..I’ll tell you.’
Jaishankar had said a day earlier that India looked at America with suspicion. Under the leadership of PM Modi, the attitude changed and the ‘ideological burden’ was left behind. Jaishankar had said that ‘he is practical, focused on results, has done cost-benefit analysis.
