Karnataka Home Minister tables Anti-conversion bill assembly

Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra tabled the contentious anti-conversion bill in the state Assembly.

The house speaker announced that made sure the government to introduce the bill according procedure and it will be taken up for discussion in the Assembly on Wednesday.

“It is my right to tear the bill, let them do what they want. This bill is against the Constitution. This is just to blackmail and harass the minorities. All have the right to preach their own religion. Congress will oppose this bill and when the Congress party comes to power, we will reverse this,” DK Shivakumar said on Tuesday.

Reacting to the development, Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai was quoted by ANI as saying, “There is full opportunity for debate in the Assembly. They [Opposition] were not present in the House when the bill was presented in the House. This is not the government’s fault.”

The state cabinet had approved the anti-conversation bill called The Karnataka Protection of Right to Freedom of Religion Bill, 2021.
