Punjab elections: Bhagwant Mann accused of violating Corona rules, EC sent notice

Due to the coronavirus epidemic in the assembly elections, the Election Commission has issued guidelines regarding rallies and public meetings. But there are reports one after the other, where there are allegations of violation of Covid rules for election programs. Now on Monday, the Election Commission has sent a notice for campaigning in Punjab elections. In Sangrur, Punjab, Aam Aadmi Party’s chief ministerial candidate Bhagwant Mann has been accused of violating the Corona rule during the campaign, due to which the EC has sent a notice to him.

In Punjab, Aam Aadmi Party’s
chief ministerial candidate Bhagwant Mann reached his constituency Dhuri on Sunday for the first time after becoming the chief ministerial candidate and being declared the candidate from Dhuri. Dhuri seat comes in Sangrur district.

In fact, while announcing the dates for elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Punjab and Manipur on January 8, the Election Commission had announced a ban on rallies, road shows and bike rallies and similar campaigning programs till January 15. The commission had on January 15 extended the ban till January 22. On Saturday, it was increased to 31 January.

Aam Aadmi Party is going to launch its election slogan in Punjab today. Bhagwant Mann will hold a press conference in Jalandhar, in which the party’s election slogan will be announced.

Election dates in Punjab have been changed due to the visit of Ravidas Jayanti. Elections for 117 assembly seats here are now being held in a single phase on February 20 instead of February 14. According to the revised schedule, now the notification will be issued on January 25 and the last date for nomination will be February 1. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on February 2 and names can be withdrawn till February 4. Counting of votes is to be held on March 10 in all the five electoral states.
