Samajwadi Party Leader Azam Khan fears being shot like Atiq Ahmed, raises concerns over voting rights

Azam Khan: Azam Khan, a senior Samajwadi Party official, stated during a civic election campaign stop in Rampur that he feared being shot to death in a manner similar to that of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed. ‘What do you require of me and my kids? Do you desire that we be shot in the head? That is all that is required of you now to save Nizam-e-Hind and the law; all you need to do is inspire yourself. If you find yourself at a standstill, sit there and strive to advance rather than reversing course,’ he said.

Azam Khan returned to the campaign trail for the forthcoming UP municipal elections

Azam Khan, who had been battling a protracted illness, returned to the campaign trail for the forthcoming UP municipal elections. He said in reference to his exclusion from the House after receiving a three-year prison sentence for hate speech, ‘We will cast our vote, it’s our birthright, but that too is being snatched from us twice, if it gets snatched thrice then you won’t even have the right to breathe.’ Khan was charged after making significant accusations during an electoral rally in 2019 against Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, and government employees assigned to Rampur.

Azam Khan was chosen as a legislator for the Rampur Sadar district

‘Those who claim that the municipality is under contract today put the entire nation under contract; the Red Fort, airports, ports, and railways have all been sold; what is left? There’s only the army remaining. It ought to stay where it is—with Hukumat-e-Hind. There is a difference between our army and the one of the government.’ Azam Khan said, ‘Our army is your army, and we have witnessed this army battling at every turn and winning.’ Azam Khan was chosen as a legislator for the Rampur Sadar district. Khan was declared ineligible to serve in the House by the state Assembly Secretariat earlier in October as a result of a court’s three-year prison term for hate speech. In April 2019, a charge was filed against Khan for making serious claims at an electoral gathering against Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and administrative employees stationed in Rampur.
