The Shinde-Fadnavis government has removed the security cover of 15 leaders of Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi. However, the security of their families including Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar is intact. Apart from this, the security of Uddhav Thackeray’s most trusted aide Milind Narvekar has been increased. Narvekar earlier had X category security, now he has been given Y plus security.
In this way, the security arrangements of a total of 25 leaders have either been removed or reduced. The security of NCP leaders Ajit Pawar and Dilip Walse Patil has been reduced from ‘Z’ category to ‘Y-plus’.
The leaders whose security has been completely withdrawn include Varun Sardesai, Uddhav Thackeray’s nephew and Yuva Sena functionary, jailed Anil Deshmukh, NCP’s Chhagan Bhujbal, Jayant Patil, Dhananjay Munde, Nawab Malik and Narhari Jirwal, Congress’ Balasaheb Thorat, Nitin Raut, Nana Patole, Satej Patil, Vijay Wadettiwar, SunilKedar, a close aide of Uddhav Thackeray and Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut, Bhaskar Jadhav and Delkar family of Sena and Aslam Shaikh, Anil Parab.
According to the information given to the media on Friday, now these leaders will not get permanent police protection outside their homes or escort.
A government official said that the security cover of these leaders has been removed after assessing the security situation. However, he said that the security of former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has been kept intact. He said the security of former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray and his family members, NCP president Sharad Pawar and his daughter and Lok Sabha member Supriya Sule, including his family members, has been maintained.
“The security of NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad has also been kept as before. Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Ajit Pawar and former Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil (both NCP) have been given ‘Y-plus-escort’.
Congress leaders Ashok Chavan and Prithviraj Chavan, both former chief ministers, have been provided ‘Y’ category security, the official said.
