Smriti Irani’s defence after Rahul Gandhi’s attack on Manipur Violence

Union Minister Smriti Irani responded to Rahul Gandhi’s comments about Manipur in the Lok Sabha by condemning his behavior and remarks. She criticized his statement that the BJP had “murdered Bharat Mata in Manipur,” calling it the first instance of someone speaking about the “murder of Bharat Mata” in Parliament. Irani expressed her disagreement with Rahul Gandhi’s viewpoint and attacked the Congress party, stating that they do not represent India’s values. She asserted that India stands against corruption and dynastic politics, emphasizing that the principles of meritocracy are prevailing in the country.

In her fiery speech, Smriti Irani addressed the opposition’s new name, INDIA, and argued that the Congress party does not embody the true spirit of India. She invoked the Quit India movement and urged for corruption and dynasty to be eradicated from the political landscape. Irani also referred to the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir in 2019 and declared that the status quo on this matter will persist. She criticized Rahul Gandhi’s promise to reinstate Article 370 and warned against those who threaten Kashmiri Pandits.

Irani further mentioned that Congress leaders applauded Rahul Gandhi’s comments about the “murder of India” and accused the Congress of being responsible for insurgency and issues in the northeast. She emphasized that the BJP’s politics did not kill Manipur but rather contributed to the betterment of the region.

Rahul Gandhi, the former Congress chief, had accused the BJP of “murdering Hindustan” in Manipur and accused them of being traitors instead of patriots. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju demanded an apology from Rahul Gandhi, holding the Congress responsible for problems in the northeast. The Congress brought a no-confidence motion against the government on behalf of the opposition grouping INDIA.
