Union Health Ministry Reduces Gap For Covid Booster

Corona Booster Dose News: Amidst the increasing pace of corona in the country, on Wednesday, the central government has made a big announcement regarding the ongoing vaccination campaign against Covid. The central government reduced the interval of booster Covid-19 doses to six months from the earlier nine months.

This comes after the Standing Technical Sub-Committee (STSC) of NTAGI last month recommended reducing the gap between second and precautionary doses of COVID-19 vaccines to six months.

The recommendation was endorsed by the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization, according to the Union Health Ministry. Therefore, it has now been decided that the precautionary dose for all the beneficiaries in the age group of 18-59 years may be administered at a private immunization center after six months or 26 weeks from the date of the second dose.

In a letter issued by Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan to the states, it has been said that the Union Health Ministry has reduced the gap of COVID-19 precautionary dosage for people above 18 years from the existing 9 months to 6 months.

Along with this, in the letter issued by the Union Health Secretary, it has also been said that elderly people above 60 years of age as well as health workers (HCWs) and frontline workers (FLWs) should be sent to government immunization centers after completion of six months. A Covid booster dose will be given for free.

Earlier, in May, the government allowed citizens traveling abroad to get a booster shot of the vaccine before the waiting period of nine months as per the guidelines of the destination country.
