Xiaomi Steps into the EV landscape, introduces SU7 with 800 km of range, Details

Over the following ten years, Xiaomi has promised to invest $10 billion, or Rs 82,700 crore, in the automotive industry.

Xiaomi: On December 28, Xiaomi debuted the SU7, its first electric vehicle. The tech company’s electric vehicle production branch, Xiaomi EV, unveiled further details about the SU7 and positioned it as a serious competitor against the world’s top electric vehicles. Powertrain details

The SU7 from Xiaomi will be available with two different battery pack options: a larger 101 kWh CTB (cell to body) battery pack from CATL, and an entry-level 73.6 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery from BYD. SU7 is rated for a maximum range of 800 km on a single charge. At a later time, Xiaomi plans to release a new V8 version of the SU7 that has a larger 150-kWh battery pack.

The Xiaomi SU7 electric sedan is anticipated to perform on par with some of the fastest electric cars on the planet. Xiaomi promises the EV will reach at least 21,000 revolutions per minute (RPM), which puts it in the top half of its class. The two motors that are manufactured in significant numbers are the V6 and V6S, which have power outputs that vary from 299 to 374 horsepower. The maximum speed of the SU7 will be 210 kmph for the cheaper variants and 265 kmph for the higher variants.

Features onboard

Xiaomi cars would have the best autonomous driving technology available on the market, Lei stated during the launch event in Beijing. Consequently, Lidar-based autonomous driving capabilities such as adaptive cruise control and self-parking are included in the SU7 package. The car runs on the brand’s HyperOS operating system.

Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co. Ltd. (BAIC) will do contract manufacturing for Xiaomi in China for the SU7. Available in three variations, the SU7, SU7 Pro, and SU7 Max, the coupe electric vehicle will be sold retail under the company’s well-known smartphone brand, Mi. Aqua Blue, Mineral Grey, and Verdant Green are the three colour options that Xiaomi is giving for the SU7.
