Centre plans to invest Rs 1000 cr in setting up 200 tv channels to educate underprivileged youth

Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Education Minister announced that the Indian Government has taken an initiative to educate its underprivileged youth by investing Rs 1000 cr to set up TV channels in remote and backward areas giving access to quality education. He made the announcement while inaugurating a new computer centre and e-classroom building at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Hamirpur. Soon, there will be channels in each language of India, he further said.

The minister went on Twitter to announce the setting up of 200 new TV channels. He Tweeted “GoI is investing over 1,000 crores to create 200 new TV channels for ensuring access to quality education for underprivileged youth in remote and backward areas. Soon we will have one channel for every class in every language of India.”

The Union Education Minister encouraged NITH to think in the direction of building channels as the new channels will need content. He tweeted that “These 200+ TV channels will require innovative and quality content. @NITHamirpurHP should think in this direction and create innovative audio-visual-gaming based content for students of both basic and advanced courses.”

The minister further went on to say that Himachal Pradesh is a ‘DEVBHOOMI’ and ‘VEERBHOOMI’ as well and now the main target should be making it a ‘Gyan-Bhoomi’. He said “Himachal Pradesh is a civilizational centre point. It is a “Devbhoomi” & also a “Veerbhoomi”. Now we have to focus on making it a ‘Gyan-bhoomi’.Moving forward, he added that “We have to create citizens who are sensitive, responsible & contribute in preserving the ancient heritage and knowledge of the land.”
