10-day classes canceled and mid-term exams postponed by LPU after clashes at the educational institute and the university in Phagwara.
Classes suspended from September 28
As per the university’s notice, classes for the regular students will remain closed for 10 days starting from September 28, 2026. The midterm exams will be postponed till further notice, LPU stated. The university will inform the students about the new exam dates through its University Management System. The university has permitted students to go to their hometowns during the 10 days after consulting with their parents or guardians. Students who have decided to stay back have been directed to stay inside their hostels and places of residence and not roam around.

Protests lead to campus disruption
The protests had started following rumors that a female student was unsafe among students and on social media platforms. Subsequently, the situation worsened with stone-pelting, attacks on university property, and NH-44 also being blocked near the university campus. LPU had denied the allegations spread about the incident and termed some of the claims as rumors. A case has been registered with the police, and an investigation has begun to bring facts to the fore. An SIT has also been constituted to probe the matter.
Police presence increased around the campus
Nearly 1,400 officers have been used to control the situation, with officials claiming that over 2,000 police officers have been sent to control the situation. At the same time, authorities have asked students to remain calm and act according to the guidelines
The examination schedule remains pending
The delay means students will wait longer for a new timetable for mid-term exams. LPU said the new timetable will be put up on the University Management System once a decision is taken. At this time, the top priority is still ensuring safety on campus while officials will continue to investigate the allegations and what happened in the protest.
