Aakhri Sawal Box Office Collection Day 1: Sanjay Dutt’s comeback as a solo lead has failed to create the expected impact at the box office. His latest political drama Aakhri Sawal opened to disappointing numbers on its first day despite receiving positive reactions from a section of viewers and critics. The film had generated strong curiosity before release because of its controversial political backdrop and intense promotional material, but the buzz did not translate into ticket sales.
Trade circles were expecting Aakhri Sawal to take a decent opening in the range of Rs 2-3 crore. However, the film struggled across major centres from the morning shows itself.
Aakhri Sawal Box Office Collection Day 1
According to Sacnilk, the movie earned an estimated Rs 0.40 crore net in India on Day 1, making it one of the weakest openings in Sanjay Dutt’s career as a lead actor.
The Day 1 collection of Aakhri Sawal has surprised many industry observers because the film had decent pre-release attention. Apart from Sanjay Dutt’s return to a central role, the movie’s political subject and emotional conflict had also sparked online discussions.
However, occupancy remained low in both multiplexes and mass circuits. The weak footfalls suggest that the film failed to attract audiences despite favourable word of mouth from early viewers.
The opening numbers become even more disappointing when compared to Sanjay Dutt’s earlier solo projects. His 2019 political drama Prassthanam had collected Rs 1 crore on its opening day, which is more than double the earnings of Aakhri Sawal.
Over the years, the actor’s solo releases have shown a noticeable drop in opening-day collections.
Sanjay Dutt’s recent solo lead openings:
| Movie Name (Year) | Day 1 India Net Collection |
|---|---|
| Aakhri Sawal (2026) | Rs 0.40 crore (Lowest) |
| Prassthanam (2019) | Rs 1 crore |
| Bhoomi (2017) | Rs 2.25 crore |
| Policegiri (2013) | Rs 3.25 crore |
| Zila Ghaziabad (2013) | Rs 3.50 crore |
Another major reason behind the poor opening appears to be the heavy competition currently running in theatres. Comedy film Pati Patni Aur Woh Do managed to attract a bigger share of the Hindi-speaking audience and opened much better at the box office.
DON'T MISS
At the same time, Tamil action drama Karuppu continued to dominate several southern markets with strong advance bookings and impressive occupancy. Holdover releases also added pressure on Aakhri Sawal’s theatrical run.
Films like Bhooth Bangla and Marathi blockbuster Raja Shivaji continued to perform steadily, limiting screen space and audience attention for Sanjay Dutt’s film in several regions.
About The Film
Directed by Abhijeet Mohan Warang, Aakhri Sawal tells the story of Vicky, a brilliant but emotionally volatile scholar whose thesis on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) gets rejected. Convinced that the decision was politically motivated, he publicly accuses his mentor Professor Gopal Nadkarni, triggering a nationwide media and political storm.
As the conflict escalates, hidden truths and personal motives slowly come to light. The story eventually builds towards a shocking revelation that threatens to destroy reputations and expose a decades-old secret.
The film features Sanjay Dutt as Professor Gopal Nadkarni and Namashi Chakraborty as Vicky Hegde. The supporting cast includes Sameera Reddy, Amit Sadh and Nitu Chandra Srivastava in key roles.
With a runtime of 1 hour and 57 minutes and a UA16+ certification, Aakhri Sawal attempts to blend political drama with emotional tension. While performances and the film’s bold subject have received appreciation from some viewers, the weak opening has now put extra pressure on its weekend box office performance.
