Aamir Khan is gearing up for his latest release Sitaare Zameen Par, but don’t call it a comeback. The actor, who is known for his selective project choices, isn’t a fan of the term. He says he’s simply continuing what he’s always done, which is telling “meaningful” stories.
In a chat with News18 Showsha, Aamir made his point clear. He said, “Well, I’m not considering it a comeback film, quite honestly. My films usually come out once in three years anyway.”
He added, “A lot of actors have 8 to 10 flops, but we don’t call those comebacks, do we? I’ve had just one flop, and you’re calling it a comeback? I haven’t gone anywhere.”
Sitaare Zameen Par Brings ‘Greater’ Challenge
The new film draws parallels with his 2007 hit Taare Zameen Par, but Aamir insisted this one goes further. He said, “The script felt like an extension of what we were trying to say in Taare. That film was about inclusion, about a child with a learning disability. But in Sitaare, the challenge is even greater.”
This time, the focus is on children with more complex conditions like autism and Down syndrome. And in a refreshing change, the kids aren’t the ones being helped. He shared, “The neurodivergent kids help the coach. That’s why I feel this film goes ten steps ahead in the same theme.”
Aamir On The Film’s Message
Aamir says the film’s message hit him hard. It’s not just about disabilities, it’s about breaking how we see others. He said, “This film is very close to my heart. It speaks about seeing people for who they truly are, not what labels define them as.”
Directed by RS Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par is a sports comedy with emotional depth. Aamir Khan stars alongside Genelia Deshmukh, and the film introduces ten new young actors. Some of the fresh faces include Aroush Datta, Samvit Desai, Rishi Shahani, and Simran Mangeshkar.
For the unversed, Sitaare Zameen Par releases in theates worldwide on June 20. There’s no clarity about its digital debut as Aamir is reportedly exploring YouTube pay-per-view option instead of selling OTT rights to streaming platforms.
