R Madhavan is back in the romance genre with Aap Jaisa Koi, a new Netflix film set to release on July 11. He plays 42-year-old Shrirenu Tripathi, a man hoping to find love. His life changes when he meets 32-year-old schoolteacher Madhu Bose, played by Fatima Sana Shaikh. But things don’t stay simple for long.

Directed by Vivek Soni and produced by Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment, the film mixes love with real-world issues like control, family pressure, and freedom in relationships.

The trailer begins with Shrirenu being told to lie about his age. “Why is your age 42 in your biodata? I told you to write 39,” says his sister-in-law. Soon, he meets Madhu, who is “32, single, and has never married.” Their bond grows quickly. They laugh, get engaged, and seem happy together.

But the real drama begins when Shrirenu’s family disapproves of Madhu’s habits. They call her “modern” and are bothered by her drinking, playing cards, and open conversations.

The real drama begins when Shrirenu himself starts setting boundaries. “Sab kuch allow karenge lekin limit mein,” he says. Madhu pushes back: “Why should you decide my limit?” That one moment leads to a breakup and a cancelled wedding.
