According to reports, Anudeep Katikala was arrested by Andhra Pradesh Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj, where he had gone to visit his family. The action came days after a complaint was filed against him over a stand-up video that targeted Tollywood stars and fan culture, including Pawan Kalyan.

The controversy began after a video of Anudeep’s performance surfaced online. In the clip, he made jokes about popular actors and their personal lives. While some viewers saw it as typical stand-up humour, others found it offensive.

As news of the arrest spread, social media users reacted strongly. Many criticised the move and raised concerns about freedom of expression. One user wrote, “Worship culture getting out of hand.” Another commented, “India is the new North Korea.”
A netizen said, “He is arrested for a joke…and criminals who murder, rape and all are roaming freely outside. What a joke…indian judicial system has became.”

A section of users defended the action, saying certain jokes crossed a line. One fan wrote, “He didn’t joke or criticise PK’s political life. He was joking abt PK’s personal life, abused Ram Charan’s relation with his wife, and took a dig at his niece’s personal life in a degrading way. This shouldn’t be tolerated in the name of comedy.”
What Did The Comedian Say?
In the controversial video, Anudeep joked about Peddi actor Ram Charan, calling him a “feminist” for being secure about his wife Upasana Kamineni, who is financially more successful. He also made remarks about Pawan Kalyan’s personal life, including his divorces, which sparked backlash.
