Anurag Kashyap, the renowned filmmaker behind Gangs of Wasseypur, Manmarziyaan and Sacred Games, has reportedly left Bollywood. Reports suggest that he has moved out of Mumbai and shifted to Bengaluru. Known for his unconventional storytelling and bold filmmaking, Anurag Kashyap has often been vocal about the challenges within Bollywood. However, his latest statement has sent shockwaves through the industry. The filmmaker has criticised Bollywood’s obsession with ₹800 crore films, claiming that creativity is dead in the industry. His sudden exit has raised concerns about whether Bollywood has become too toxic for creative minds.

Why Did Anurag Kashyap Call Bollywood ‘Toxic’?

The exact reason behind Anurag Kashyap leaving Mumbai remains unclear, but his recent interview with an English newspaper has gone viral. In the interview, he openly criticised Bollywood, calling it "toxic" and blaming its focus on big-budget films worth ₹500–₹800 crore instead of fostering creativity. According to him, the film industry is no longer a space for experimental cinema.

Anurag Kashyap has also taken a dig at Bollywood’s growing star culture. He accused actors of demanding "star treatment," emphasising that things don’t always work that way in the industry.

Has Anurag Kashyap Moved to South Cinema?

While there is no official confirmation about his permanent move, reports claim that Anurag Kashyap has shifted to Bengaluru. The filmmaker now seems to be more inclined toward South Indian cinema. His recent Hollywood interview further fueled speculations, as he admitted: "I feel jealous of South filmmakers because I can’t match their creativity. Here, people only care about money, and no one wants to experiment."
