Arvind Trivedi, ‘Ravan’ of Ramayana, passes away at 82

Veteran actor Arvind Trivedi, who played the character of ‘Ravan’ in Ramanand Sagar’s cult TV show Ramayan, passed away following a heart attack in Mumbai on Tuesday night. He was 82 years old.

The veteran actor’s The last rites will be held at Dahanukarwadi crematorium, Kandivali West, in Mumbai on October 6 morning.

On social media, actors Arun Govil and Sunil Lahri confirmed the news of Arvind Trivedi’s death and remembered their Ramayan co-star in heart-wrenching posts.

Lahri took to social media to express his condolences. He shared pictures of Arvind Trivedi, including one of him in the Ravana costume, and wrote, “Bahut dukhad Samachar hai ki Hamare Sabke Pyare Arvind bhai (Ravan of Ramayan) Ab Hamare bich Nahin Rahe. (It’s very sad news that our beloved Arvind (Ravan of Ramayan) is no longer with us).”

“Bhagwan Unki Atma ko Shanti De… (May he rest in peace) I am speechless I lost father figure my guide well wisher & gentleman…” Lahri added.

Earlier this year, a fake news item about Arvind’s death had circulated and Lahiri confirmed that he was fine. He shared a pic and wrote in May 2021, “Nowadays, we are inundated with bad news because of the Covid-19 pandemic, and this time, it was fake news about Arvind Trivedi ji (Raavan). I request those who are spreading such false rumours to refrain from doing so… By God’s grace, Arvind ji is fine and I pray that God always keeps him healthy.”

About Arvind Trivedi’s career

In a career spanning over three decades, Arvind Trivedi also played pivotal roles in Vikram Aur Betaal. He has acted in about 300 Hindi and Gujarati films. He was an MP from 1991 to 1996. He won seven awards for acting in Gujarati films, awarded by the Government of Gujarat.

In 2002, he was named as the working chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Arvind Trivedi served as CBFC chief from July 20, 2002, to October 16, 2003.

Last year, during the COVID-19 lockdown, the cult TV show Ramayan was broadcast by Doordarshan and it topped the popularity ratings.
