Netflix India has partnered with Vikramaditya Motwane to bring the ‘one of a kind prison drama’ Black Warrant. Created by Motwane, this series offers an inside look at life in Tihar Jail. Black Warrant stars Zahan Kapoor in his web series in an ensemble cast.
Netflix is coming up with a new prison drama series in collaboration with the man behind Scared Games and Jubilee, Vikramaditya Motwane. The series is an adaptation of the book ‘Black Warrant: Confessions of a Tihar Jailer’ by Sunil Gupta (former superintendent at the prison) and Sunetra Choudhury and promises a look into life in prison. The series showcases a dramatised series of events from the experiences shared by Sunil Gupta, during his time as a superintendent at Asia’s largest prison.

The upcoming prison drama stars Zahan Kapoor playing the role of the former superintendent, Sunil Kumar Gupta. Black Warrant on Netflix also marks Zahan’s web series debut. It also features Rahul Bhat, Paramvir Singh Cheema, Anurag Thakur and Sidhant Gupta in key roles. The series is directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, Ambiecka Pandit, Arkesh Ajay and Rohin Raveendran Nair.
With the details of its story out along with its cast, it will be interesting to see how people react to this ‘one of a kind’ prison drama. Also, will this series create a trend for more prison stories in Indian cinema? Vikramaditya Motwane returns with Black Warrant on Netflix on 10th January 2025.
