Ajay Devgn, R Madhavan and Rakul Preet Singh’s De De Pyaar De 2 saw some weekday growth on Day 5 at the box office. After a slow start and a steep Monday dip, the film earned an estimated Rs 5 crore on Tuesday due to discounted rates, taking its total collection to around Rs 44 crore.

The film recorded a 16.53 percent overall Hindi occupancy on Tuesday. Morning shows began at 7.96 percent, rising to 12.8 per cent in the afternoon, holding steady at 16.45 percent in the evening, and peaking at 28.91 percent at night. Region-wise, Delhi-NCR, which had 1,392 shows, saw an occupancy of 19.5 percent. Mumbai reported 20.5 percent occupancy with 830 shows.

While the numbers remain below expectations, the small Day 5 jump reflects the impact of Tuesday offers and promotions. Compared with other 2025 releases, the film has outperformed several rom-coms, including Param Sundari and Sunny Sanskari Ki Ulsi Kumari. It also did better than films like Bhool Chuk Maaf (Rs 37.25 crore in five days) and Kesari Chapter 2 (Rs 39 crore).

However, De De Pyaar De 2 still trails behind its predecessor, which collected Rs 50 crore in the first five days. Other 2025 films like Akshay Kumar’s Sky Force (Rs 75 crore) and the Diwali release Thamma (Rs 78.7 crore), also outperformed the sequel. Ajay Devgn’s earlier 2025 films, such as Raid 2 (Rs 78.75 crore) and Drishyam 2 (Rs 86.49 crore), had much stronger openings, while Singham Again earned Rs 153.75 crore in a similar period last year. On the positive side, the sequel surpassed Son of Sardaar 2 (Rs 29.85 crore) and Maidaan (Rs 23.5 crore).

About the Film

Directed by Anshul Sharma, De De Pyaar De 2 continues the story of Ashish (Ajay Devgn) and Ayesha (Rakul Preet Singh) as they navigate family expectations and a significant age-gap relationship. After gaining approval from his own family, Ashish accompanies Ayesha to India to meet her parents, Rajji (R. Madhavan) and Anju (Gautami Kapoor). Initially shocked by the age difference, Ayesha’s parents attempt to break them up by introducing her childhood friend, Aditya (Meezaan Jafri), into the mix.

Ayesha and her mother play along with the ruse, and the film concludes with Rajji accepting Ashish, allowing the couple to reunite. The story blends comedy, family drama, and romance, with a mix of returning and new characters:

Ajay Devgn as Ashish Mehra

Rakul Preet Singh as Ayesha Khurana

R Madhavan as Rajji

Gautami Kapoor as Anju

Meezaan Jafri as Aditya

Jaaved Jaaferi as Ronak

Produced by Luv Films and T-Series, the movie had a production budget of Rs 135 crore, with an additional Rs 15 crore spent on marketing. Despite mixed reviews over its humour, formulaic plot and some controversial gender dynamics, its box office performance combined with pre-sales of non-theatrical rights makes it a financially decent venture.

With upcoming releases like 120 Bahadur, Mastii 4, Tere Ishq Mein, and Dhurandhar, it remains to be seen whether the film can maintain momentum.
