Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa’s Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat has managed to stay steady at the box office, even though it opened to mostly negative reviews. Produced by Desi Movies Factory, the romantic drama has gained from positive word-of-mouth and has crossed the Rs 30 crore mark in just five days.

According to trade tracker Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 9 crore on its opening day. Collections dipped to Rs 7.75 crore on day two, Rs 6 crore on day three, and Rs 5.5 crore on day four. On its first Saturday, the movie earned Rs 5.75 crore, bringing the total to Rs 34 crore. While the film held well during the weekdays, Saturday only showed a small 4.55% growth. Usually, films see a bigger weekend jump, so this indicates limited momentum.

The movie faced strong competition from Maddock Films’ horror-comedy Thamma, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, which is nearing Rs 80 crore. Released on fewer screens, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat still maintained a decent run, showing the pull of Rane and Bajwa’s pairing.

Plot Overview

The film tells a dark romance between Vikramaditya (Harshvardhan Rane), an aspiring politician, and Adaa (Sonam Bajwa), a free-spirited actress. Their love starts passionately but turns obsessive. Adaa believes love should be free, while Vikramaditya struggles with possessiveness. The story shows how obsession can turn dangerous.

Vikramaditya’s refusal to accept rejection drives the plot, highlighting the toxic side of one-sided love. Critics note that while the film presents itself as a passionate romance, it also serves as a cautionary tale about obsessive relationships. Supporting roles are played by Shaad Randhawa, Sachin Khedekar, Ananth Narayan Mahadevan and Rajesh Khera.

What The Director Said

Director Milap Zaveri addressed criticism of the film’s regressive themes. He told Bollywood Hungama, “This is the era of Animal and Kabir Singh where audiences have accepted such characters with open hearts, even though they are flawed, their heart is in the right place.”

He added, “Look at Shah Rukh sir in Anjaam and Darr. The torture and trouble that Shah Rukh sir puts Madhuri ma’am through in Anjaam is irredeemable. Maybe that is also the reason why the film failed. Harshvardhan Rane had told me about a beautiful line from one of Shah Rukh sir’s interviews where he said, ‘Even when I am bad, I’ll make you love me!’ Harsh took an inspiration from that line. He told me, ‘Even though I am bad, I’ll try my best to be lovable.’”
