With an amazing cameo star cast, led by Prabhas, Akshay Kumar, and Kajal Aggarwal, Kannappa shows much potential. However, its first-weekend box office collection is telling a different story.

While securing a decent collection, the movie fails to get the numbers expected from the high-voltage mythological films of Prabhas. In fact, it could not beat the weekend collection of Amir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par. Despite having a pan-India, multi-language release, the Kannappa box office collection on day 3 will shock you.

Kannappa Box Office Collection Day 3 Crosses 23 Crores

The much-awaited mythological film featuring Prabhas and Akshay Kumar, 'Kannappa', was released in theatres on Friday, 27 June. Although a slight setback from the previous high-voltage films of Prabhas, this film is performing decently with a 3-day collection of 7.25 crores.

This brings its three-day weekend net collection to approximately Rs. 23.75 crores, according to the trade analyst Sacnilk. Vishnu Manchu's 'Kannappa' opened with only a Rs 9.3 crore margin. On the second day, it saw a 23% drop, securing only 7.15 crores in its bucket. While the Sunday collection saw a slight rise as it hit 7.25 crores. Did this poor performance of 'Kannappa' result from the buzz of Amir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par?

Sitaare Zameen Par Box Office Collection

Kannappa is getting serious competition from Aamir Khan's 'Sitaare Zameen Par'. As is a trend with the movies of Mr. Perfectionist, this movie is also getting a steady hold at the box office in its second weekend. It collected around Rs. 14.50 crores on its second Sunday, literally doubling the first Sunday collection of Kannappa. With this, the movie has collected around Rs 122 crores in its first 10 days.

Kannappa also failed to beat even the weekend records of Teja Sajja's mythological film Hanuman, which got 24.65 crores in the first three days. Despite being released in multiple languages, the movie is receiving more appreciation in the Telugu belt, with a 39.93% occupancy.  The Hindi audience is showing a decent interest, with 22.71% occupancy. This marks the question of what went wrong with the movie, the plot or the time of release.

The Story of Kannappa

Director Mukesh Kumar Singh's 'Kannappa' stars Vishnu Manchu as Thinna. He plays the role of an atheist tribal hunter who gradually becomes a devotee of Lord Shiva. But it is the cameo characters and their actors who are mainly getting the attraction.

Here, you can see Akshay Kumar as Lord Shiva, whereas Prabhas plays Rudra. You will also see Kajal Aggarwal as Mata Parvati and Mohanlal playing the part of Kirata. Therefore, the movie has the masala to be a box office success. However, its launch time probably backfires on it.
