Actor Rajpal Yadav has found himself at the centre of a fresh social media storm. The renewed outrage follows explosive statements made by businessman Madhav Gopal Agrawal, who has been locked in a long legal dispute with the actor over an unpaid debt.
In recent remarks, Agrawal opened up about the emotional and financial strain he says he endured while trying to recover his money.
Rajpal Yadav Debt Row: Lender Details Emotional Appeals
The businessman revealed that he was so desperate that he “cried like a child” in front of Rajpal Yadav. According to Agrawal, the Rs 5 crore he lent in 2010 for the film Ata Pata Laapata was not his own money. Instead, he claimed he had borrowed it from others and was under severe pressure to repay them.
Agrawal alleged that he repeatedly visited Yadav’s residence, pleading for a firm repayment date. However, he said the actor continued to delay payments. Eventually, Rajpal Yadav issued multiple cheques, but Agrawal claims those cheques bounced.
Agrawal further stated that Rajpal Yadav initially approached him when the film was nearing completion. He recalled the actor saying that without additional funding, “everything would go to waste”. When Agrawal hesitated, Radha Yadav, the actor’s wife, reportedly sent messages urging him to help. Moved by the appeals, Agrawal agreed to provide financial support.
The businessman emphasised that the agreement clearly specified repayment terms. He claimed the contract stated that repayment would not depend on the film’s box-office performance, censorship certification or any other external factor. Agrawal also alleged that Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 actor personally guaranteed the loan.
When the repayment deadline passed, Agrawal said he contacted the actor again. He claimed Yadav cited financial difficulties. As a result, three supplementary agreements were reportedly signed, and fresh cheques were issued.
The dispute escalated after a music launch event for the film, attended by Amitabh Bachchan. Agrawal said he later realised that, under the original agreement, the film’s negatives and pending dues were to be handed over upon completion. This discovery prompted him to move court and seek a stay on the film’s release.
Rajpal Yadav reportedly argued that repayment before release was not possible. The parties eventually reached a settlement, and the stay was lifted. The film was later released but failed at the box office.
With no resolution by 2013, Agrawal returned to court. Following judicial intervention, a settlement of ₹10.40 crore was agreed upon. Agrawal claimed Rajpal Yadav issued several cheques to clear the dues, but all were dishonoured, triggering further legal proceedings.

While Agrawal described the transaction as a loan, Rajpal Yadav has maintained in past interviews that the money was an investment meant to launch Agrawal’s grandson into acting.
Legal Developments In Rajpal Yadav Debt Case
The 14-year legal battle recently led to Yadav’s surrender at Tihar Jail after the Delhi High Court rejected further repayment extensions. Before surrendering in February 2026, the actor made an emotional plea in court, stating, “I have no money”, and describing feelings of isolation amid his financial crisis.
Reports suggest the original Rs 5 crore debt grew to nearly Rs 9 crore due to interest and penalties.
However, on February 16, 2026, the Delhi High Court granted Rajpal Yadav interim bail and suspended his six-month sentence. The relief came after the actor deposited Rs 1.5 crore with the complainant, M/s Murali Projects Pvt Ltd. The temporary bail also allowed him to attend his niece’s wedding on February 19.
As part of the bail conditions, Rajpal Yadav surrendered his passport and is barred from leaving India. The next hearing is scheduled for March 18, 2026, when the court will review his repayment progress.
