Veteran actor Moushumi Chatterjee has made some striking remarks about late superstar Rajesh Khanna, offering a rare glimpse into his personality during the peak of his fame. Known as Hindi cinema’s first superstar, Rajesh Khanna enjoyed unmatched popularity in the 1970s, but Moushumi’s latest comments suggest that the massive success may have also changed him in many ways.
In a recent interview with NDTV, Moushumi Chatterjee reflected on her experiences working with Rajesh Khanna and spoke candidly about his behaviour and personal struggles. While recalling their time together, the actress called him “a spoilt brat” and linked his eventual downfall to “karma.”
Rajesh Khanna Always Had Stardom In His Head’
Moushumi Chatterjee did not hold back while speaking about Rajesh Khanna’s larger-than-life image during his peak years. The actress said, “He was a spoilt brat. His success was always in his head.”
Rajesh Khanna ruled Hindi cinema at a time when his fan following was unmatched. However, the arrival of Amitabh Bachchan and the rise of the “angry young man” era gradually changed Bollywood’s landscape. As audience preferences shifted, Rajesh Khanna reportedly struggled to deal with the fading superstardom that once defined his life.

Moushumi Chatterjee Calls His Downfall ‘Karma’
When asked whether Rajesh Khanna often appeared lonely during the later phase of his career, Moushumi Chatterjee gave a philosophical response. She said, “No, it is all karma. The way you design your life, and the way you pretend to be what you are not, and the way you respond to all relationships.”
The actress also shared her views on loneliness and emotional struggles faced by celebrities. According to her, everyone experiences emptiness at some point in life, regardless of fame or success. She added, “If you say everybody is alone, you should know how to enjoy your alone time. Don’t feel lonely. I enjoy my aloneness.”
Moushumi further mentioned legendary names like Kishore Kumar and Madhubala, saying many iconic stars dealt with similar emotional phases in life.
Rajesh Khanna Era Was Full Of Competition
Moushumi Chatterjee also opened up about the atmosphere inside the film industry during the 1970s and 1980s. She explained that competition and power struggles among stars were always part of Bollywood.
She said, “Whoever was at the top felt whatever they said had to be obeyed. It was always there. Everybody who rules feels they can rule everything.”
Over the years, Rajesh Khanna and Moushumi Chatterjee worked together in several memorable films, including Anuraag, Prem Bandhan, Humshakal and Bhola Bhala.
