he much-awaited Ramayana teaser was released yesterday (April 2, 2026) on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti. The short clip introduced the grand world of the film but divided audiences with its visuals and casting choices.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, the teaser ran for over two minutes. It focused mainly on visuals rather than storytelling. Ranbir Kapoor appeared as Lord Rama, showing a calm and composed presence. Scenes included glimpses of Ayodhya, his exile, and a quiet boat ride. Yash was briefly seen as Ravana, with only his eyes and silhouette revealed.
Netizens Dislike Ranbir Kapoor In Ramayana Teaser
Soon after release, the Ramayana teaser started trending on social media. However, reactions were mixed, with many questioning Ranbir Kapoor’s casting as Lord Rama.
One user wrote, “Never seen someone so auraless.”
Another commented, “Not my Shri Ram – alcoholic eyes and long face. Ranbir does not have even 1% aura or piousness of Shri Ram, just cannot imagine him as Maryada Purushottam.”
A third user added, “Poor decision choosing Ranbir as Shri Ram. No Aura.”
Some posts als criticised the visuals, with one stating, “The vfx feels exactly the one already made with Prabhas and Kriti Sanon dear bollywood director’s konse nashe kerke vfx dalte ho woh bhi itna ghatiya, and lastly your Rama is not giving 1% vibe of puroshotum Ram.”
Many viewers argued that Ranbir’s off-screen image clashed with Lord Rama’s divine personality. Others compared his appearance to Arun Govil’s iconic portrayal, saying it lacked the same grace and innocence.
VFX And Visual Style Face Criticism
The teaser’s heavy use of VFX, created by the Oscar-winning studio DNEG, also drew attention. While expected to impress, some viewers described the visuals as “video game-like” or “cartoonish.” Several even compared it unfavourably to Adipurush.
Critics pointed out that the visuals leaned too much on “Western-style” aesthetics, resembling The Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit. According to some fans, this choice weakened the cultural and spiritual essence of the epic.
Another concern was Ranbir Kapoor’s lack of dialogue in the teaser. While his screen presence was clear, many felt that voice and diction were essential to portray Lord Rama authentically. Without dialogue, the teaser seemed incomplete to some viewers.
Despite criticism, some fans defended the teaser, saying it was too early to judge the film. They noted that the VFX was still a work in progress, with the final release planned for Diwali 2026. Fans also expressed confidence in Ranbir Kapoor’s acting skills, believing that his full performance might win over skeptics once the film is released.
Ramayana is a high-budget trilogy retelling the ancient epic. Alongside Ranbir Kapoor, the film stars Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi. It is reportedly made under a budget of Rs 4000 crore.
