Rishab Shetty’s Kantara qualifies for Oscars contention list in two categories, makers pen gratitude note

Kantara qualifies for Oscars: There’s no stopping for Rishab Shetty’s Kantara. After taking over the country by storm, Kantara has now emerged as a global phenomenon. The film has qualified for Oscars contention list, making it eligible for Oscar members to cast a vote to push it through to the main nominations. The film made it to the Academy Awards contention list in the Best Picture and Best Actor categories. 

Kantara qualifies for Oscars contention list

Kantara, which released in October, was a late entry to the Oscars. After SS Rajamouli, Rishab Shetty is the new Indian face to have made it to the Oscars. Soon, it will be revealed if the film will be able to make it to the final nominations. But this alone remains a big feat for the regional film.

Rishab Shetty pens gratitude note

Rishab Shetty, who has also directed and written the project, took to Twitter to pen a gratitude note. “We are overjoyed to share that ‘Kantara’ has received 2 Oscar qualifications! A heartfelt thank you to all who have supported us. We look forward to share this journey ahead with all of your support. Can’t wait to see it shine at the #Oscars#Kantara @hombalefilms#HombaleFilms,” he wrote.

Where to watch Kantara in Hindi?

Kantara is now available to stream in Hindi on Netflix. Kantara is the next big offering from Kannada cinema, following KGF: Chapter 2 and 777 Charlie, which made the entire nation sit up and take notice of the film industry.

In an interaction with a leading daily, Rishab Shetty said he is yet to wrap his around the response the film has received. He wrote, “When I made the film, I did it without any expectations. On the first day, when the film was packed everywhere, I was happy. But on the third day, it hit us that the movie was going to surpass our expectations. Since then, Kantara has been released in multiple languages worldwide, including in places like Indonesia and Ho Chi Minh City. Even now, in rural villages, the movie continues to play to packed audiences. I really don’t know what to say. It is overwhelming. Though I have accepted it, I can’t seem to wrap my head around it,” he said.
