Salaar Movie Review: Since the big low faced by Prabhas this year for his film Adipurush, the actor is back with a bang in this latest Prashant Neel action thriller. Salaar is one of the most awaited films of the year that was released on 22nd December 2023. Directed by Prashant Neel, this Telugu action-thriller stars Prabhas and the Malayalam star, Prithviraj Sukumaran. Since the release of the film, the audience’s enthusiasm remained the same even after the release of the film.
Plot
Salaar revolves around the main character, Dev, who lives a peaceful life after leaving behind a dark past. However, things stir up when a woman in his town gets abducted. Upon doing his investigation, Dev finds out that the man behind this is his best friend, Varadharaja Mannar, the successor of the Khansaar city. This causes the friends to turn into enemies resulting in a war.
Positives
In the film, the positives outweigh the negatives with Prabhas giving one of his best performances as Salaar in the film. Moreover, amidst a time when many mass-fight action movies are being made, this Prashant Neel action thriller brings something fresh to the table, while keeping intact what everyone loves about these action thrillers. Along with this, despite the language barriers, Prithviraj Sukumaran also brings his A-game as Varadharaja Mannar. Furthermore, the film sets an ambience filled with tension, and score, and keeps the audience on the edge of their seats at all times.
Negatives
Although the first half of the film was flawless and riveting, the second half fell short of taking forward the story. Along with this, although Prashant Neel claimed KGF inspires the movie, the similarity becomes uncanny at times, making the audience question the authenticity of the film at times. Moreover, the gore and violence in the film are not for the weak. As a result, it is not suitable to be watched with family.
Nonetheless, this highly action-packed film is a must-watch if you enjoy high-end action films. With good performances by both Prabhas and Prithviraj, accompanied by good scores, cinematography and dialogues, the movie is not worth missing out on.
Box Office Collection
despite releasing on the same day as the Shahrukh Khan Starrer, Dunki, Salaar has outperformed the Raju Hirani film. According to Sacnilk, Salaar can make up to 95 crore in India. The film has already made 49.94 Crore in booking, standing at the top of the podium, beating Leo, Jawan and Pathaan as the Indian movies with the highest booking collection.
