Sonali Kulkarni faced a terrifying travel ordeal after a massive traffic jam completely halted movement on the Mumbai–Pune route. The actress shared her shocking experience from Mankhurd Bridge, where she said she remained stuck for 5 hours while trying to reach Pune. Her emotional video has now gone viral on social media.
The gridlock affected hundreds of commuters as vehicles stood motionless for hours. In the viral clip, Sonali Kulkarni showed endless lines of cars, buses and trucks trapped in bumper-to-bumper traffic late into the night. Her visible distress and desperate appeal quickly drew attention online.
Sonali Kulkarni Shares Ordeal From Traffic Chaos
Explaining the situation in now-viral video, Sonali Kulkarni said, “It’s been exactly five hours… five hours that we are stuck here.”
She then showed the traffic behind and ahead of her vehicle and added, “You can see the traffic behind me and ahead of me. We are completely stuck because we can’t turn back either.”
The actress said the situation became more stressful because there was no clear update and no easy way out for stranded commuters.
Sonali Kulkarni also shared that she contacted the traffic control authorities for help. However, she said the response offered little relief. She revealed, “They are saying to have patience, the jam is really bad, and they are not sure when the jam will get resolved. If you can come from the other side and let us know… if you can help us or give us an update, please do.”
Reflecting on the mental stress of the standstill, she added, “I know people must have gone through much more terrible scenarios than us, but this is scary. Five hours at just one position.”

What Triggered The Massive Mumbai Jam?
The traffic chaos was reportedly caused after an excavator-mounted drilling crane collapsed on the busy Sion-Panvel route in the Mankhurd area late on April 28. The incident disrupted traffic across Mankhurd, Chembur and nearby stretches, with congestion continuing into the next day.
The accident also turned tragic. A police constable caught in the traffic was critically injured and later died. He was identified as Santosh Gopal Chavan, a 23-year veteran of the police force.
