Sonu Nigam is Worried About the X User Impersonating Him, Says THIS

Recently, when Sonu Nigam appeared at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, the President of India Droupadi Murmu honored him with a gift. The Gustakh Dil singer shared the pictures from the event. However, a fan of Sonu shared a screenshot with the playback singer in which an X user is impersonating him. Expressing his worry Sonu Nigam called it misleading and wrong. He also shared an Instagram post about it. Explaining that he is not on Twitter/X, Sonu further addressed the issue. He wrote, 'And the press, administration, government, law, who know about this, are all Quiet. Waiting for some thing to happen and then convey condolences. Thank you.'

Sonu Nigam Singh on X Claimed that He is Not the Singer

Last year in June a similar case happened with the singer when the same person was put in the dock. An HT report revealed that X user is impersonating singer Sonu Nigam and is making political remarks under his name. However, Nigam on X came forward and claimed that he's not a singer but a lawyer from Bihar. X user Sonu wrote a big post on his social media handle and claimed that he has the right to use his name.

He wrote, 'Notwithstanding the aforesaid, I understand the gravity of the situation and empathise with the concerns raised by Mr. Nigam and his team in the said newspost. However, I would emphasize that I possess valid documentation proving that my legal name is Sonu Nigam. These documents have been verified by the appropriate authorities, and I have every right to use my name across all social media platforms and other public domains.'

Impersonation is Illegal in India

Under several sections, impersonation of someone is illegal in India. As per section 66C of the IT Act using someone's identity for personal use without his permission can come with a penalty of imprisonment. If someone cheats using someone else's identity then under IPC section 416, the person can be booked. IPC section 205 also addresses the false personation in India.

Overall, Sonu Nigam is concerned over the fact that a single wrong move by the X user can tarnish his image. Which is understandable for the audience, hence, he's asking for help from the authorities and press.
